It has such a nice ring to it: Dr. Scott Story! We are so proud of Scott and Kellie and their courage to do a very hard thing like the military after they already had a good career and then to have the guts to apply for medical school at the U.S. Uniformed Services University. Scott showed so much determination and discipline, not to mention intelligence and natural ability.
This school really knew how to put on an impressive graduation. It was held in the Daughters of the American Revolution Building near the National Mall in a historic auditorium. The United States Marine Corp Band and Honor Guard provided the impressive music and ceremony. The Surgeon General of the Air Force gave the commencement remarks. Talk about Pomp and Circumstance!
The graduates were all awarded their doctorates complete with the ceremonial hooding, then they went backstage and came back out in their full dress uniforms. Each branch of the military stood up separately and recited the Hippocratic Oath and were "sworn in as medical doctors."
I know I am a weeper, but I was moved to tears many times and I considered the personal effort and sacrifice each of these doctors and nurses made to graduate in their esteemed areas. I was touched by the many wives (and husbands) and children of these men and women who had supported their loved ones through many years of challenges. I was so proud of all of them!
I should have waited for Kellie to report on this graduation first, but I just was filled with so much patriotism and pride I couldn't help myself on this 4th of July. Kellie, please fill in the details and when you get the time to report on your blog, consider this just a warm-up.
