Black Family ready to roll
In honor of Kristin, who is John Taylor's great grandaughter, we took this tour and were delighted to see the toy horse John Taylor made and later during the exodus rescued for his little boy.
Jill and Jodi were "pressed" into duty on the old newspaper printer.
The workers who sorted the letters had to be especially mindful of certain letters like these, thus the saying "Mind your P's and Q's."
A meeting in Seventies Hall.
Brigham Young Home
Brigham's dining room/meeting place.
Brickyard demonstration and reward.
On the way to Nauvoo, Michael told us he had a great grandfather who actually died in Nauvoo. Michael expressed a desire to find out more about him. In the historic part of Nauvoo, the Church has recently added the Lands and Records building where people can go to find information about relatives who lived there. This search proved to be one of the real spiritual highlights of our trip.
This land, according to the historic records, belonged to David Garlick, Michael's grandfather-back. This property was absolutely beautiful--on the hill just a few blocks from the temple and across from the LDS Stake Center. Then we were determined to find Grandpa Garlick's grave. It took us a little while to find the historic cemetary, but the search was well worth the effort.
If this sign had not been there, it would be very very hard to find. So thrilling. . .
The trail through deep forest. . .
A little structure protects the list of the names of Saints buried in the cemetary. Yes, Michael found Grandfather's name!
The gravesite was so old and abandoned, that most of the headstones are unreadable. We searched in vain for a Garlick headstone.

Notice this typical original headstone has recently been encased in an outer-case of cement to help prevent deterioration. We don't know if the family or the church has done this preservation. This was done to only a few headstones, and even then most markers were unreadable.
It is impossible to describe the wonderful spirit of that place. We sang a hymn and talked about the valiance of those Saints who made it to Nauvoo. It was one of those rare moments that fill the spiritual reservoir.
David Garlick is in great company. We wondered if Bishop Partridge's original grave was lost also. This new marker was at the edge of the cemetary near the statue. They are the only two modern objects in the cemetary.
The icing on the cake was finding where Lori's relatives lived in Nauvoo. Today that land is a park.
Lori's Property
What a great find thanks to the new Lands and Records Building in Old Nauvoo! We love Lori and Michael and are so thrilled with the knowledge that they are true to the faith of their fathers.
At the end of this great day, Jill and Michael gave their devotional at The Grove in Nauvoo. This is where Joseph Smith often taught the people. Some very important lectures were given here, as there were no large buildings for the Saints to gather. What a wonderful ending of a wonderful day.
