Jamestown

The Historic Triangle gave birth to the United States, and a huge nation grew from a tiny place in Virginia. In that same tiny place, Europeans, American Indians, and Africans first lived together and became the seed of the American people.

In 1607, settlers and seamen came ashore on Jamestown Island to establish the first permanent English settlement in the New World. The settlers' purpose was to make a profit for themselves and the Virginia Company of London.

These pictures were taken in the Jamestown settlement:

The Susan Constant, Godspeed and Discovery – re-creations of three ships that
brought English colonists to Virginia in 1607 – are moored at Jamestown Settlement’s pier.
It was interesting to learn about the four-and-a-half-month voyage from England.
