Mike and Em have a new little girl, Jessica Nicole Black. She looks very familiar--we are trying to decide if she looks more like Amy or Katelyn. All the siblings are very adoring of #6 except maybe Christian who just can't quite figure out why he has to share his mom now with this little thing wrapped in pink. He'll figure it out and be a better man for it. Congratulations Emily and Mike!

Brent and Lori Black
The wedding was beautiful! Brent was absoluted stricken with Lori and Lori was glowing the whole day. Welcome to the Black Family, Lori.
Lori's photographer took lots of pictures of the celebrations so we will let her post her favorites. I just thought it would be fun for you family members to see the "behind the scenes" pictures that surely won't make Lori's final cut.

An Afternoon in Montezuma Canyon
Montezuma Canyon in San Juan County is one of the most important and fascinating places in the world for enjoying evidence of prehistoric peoples. They think the earliest inhabitants were the Basketmakers (no pottery) and then later cliff dwellers and others. There are lots of ancient dwellings and petroglyphs to photograph and explore in this wonderful canyon.
Petroglyphs (also called rock engravings) are "pictogram and logogram images created by removing part of a rock surface by incising, picking, carving, and abrading." These are a few of the more visable petroglyphs I photographed right along the road:

I was told that some call this the "spider petrogylph" for obvious reasons. I've never seen any other like this one. This one shocked us all. We named it "The Angel Moroni!"

This was probably a storage unit. It is just so well preserved! Next trip, I'm going up to take some shots of the inside of the cliff structure. Don't worry--I tred lightly and don't touch the walls!

Also just about to roll off into the creek bottom was this perfect throwing rock probably used for hunting. I thought this was as cool as an arrowhead. How did they get them so round?

This is what I call One-Upmanship! This modern cliff dwelling had all the creature comforts. Still though, no electricity-- but they survive with solar power and generators.

There was more wildlife than me and Dana there in the canyon. This buck and his #1 wife were curious about Dana's dog.
Brinlee and Chancho
I hesitate to publish pictures of the grandkids. Oh, don't get me wrong--we have the cutest babies in the country, but I don't know how their parents feel about it. David and Ronni teased me that I blogged an old picture of the girls when they came down, but Dave and Ronni didn't get any press on their recent visit. I hopefully assumed that meant that they didn't care if I showed a few pictures of Brinlee and Chandler! We had a great weekend with that little family. Thanks for coming.

Daughters are Special
Jill and Jodi are coming this weekend to help celebrate Ethan's baptism and Corbin's blessing. Gosh, you would think it was Christmas--LeGrand and I are so excited to have those fun girls come home for a few days! We have been so blessed with these four wonderful daughters in our family. We also heard from Kellie who, against all practicalities, is flying out for Brent's wedding in March. And Kaye, our best-aunt-in-the-world daughter, will soon been having a little girl of her own. Then she will understand how much we love her and her sisters. We love girls! (Don't worry boys, we like you too.)
